AZAAD

Azaad is UC Berkeley’s award-winning Hindi Film Dance Team, and has actively danced and competed for 12 years in the national Bollywood-fusion dance circuit. Every year, Azaad creates a unique 8-minute performance and competes at 3-4 competitions nationwide. We implement various styles of dance—HFD, Hip Hop, Indian-Classical, Bhangra, and many more! Our goal is to spread our love for Indian culture using dance styles from all over India. We piece these into a high-energy, exciting routine designed to entertain our audiences.

How the Team Works

Auditions are typically held in late August/early September on a yearly basis. We will have workshops leading up to the audition date where we will teach you the choreography you will use to audition. The audition is a performance of this short piece along with a few casual questions about yourself. Azaad practices 3 times per week for 3 hours and works towards piecing together a full, thematic set to perform at competitions in the Spring. Our goal is to foster a sense of family by surrounding ourselves with individuals who love to dance as much as we do.
