OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Among dancers, there is a term called, “living.” Living is a verb that embodies the extraordinary feeling shared by all dancers who lose themselves in movement. In this sustained movement, all thought escapes you, and the only thing left is everything you’ve been holding inside escaping you through the expression of your body. Maybe they call it living because only when we exert all the energy we have while our minds are empty and our hearts are full do we experience moving, breathing life in its fullest form.

Maybe when we truly let go, we truly live.

How the Team Works

THRIVE Dance Company holds auditions once a semester. THRIVE hosts two audition workshops during which the semester’s audition combination is taught. Dancers have a few days to practice the combination before they perform it live for THRIVE’s directors. Auditions also include an interview question. Members of the company are required to attend two weekly rehearsals for the all-company piece as well as at least one additional rehearsal for a mini piece, a smaller group piece choreographed by a company member. After a semester’s worth of practice, THRIVE Dance Company puts on a showcase to share all of the pieces that they have put together with friends and family. Throughout the semester, THRIVE also puts on company-wide socials for its members. THRIVE has a house and pal system that brings together pairs as well as small groups of members to take part in socials and bonding activities with one another. All of these traditions have been adapted to a virtual format and will remain virtual until the university permits in-person gatherings. The online format includes weekly all-company and mini Zoom practices. These rehearsals then culminate in a virtual showcase of edited videos. THRIVE has also maintained its socials over Zoom to continue to foster its wonderful community.
