TRUELEMENT

TrueLement, or better known as “TL,” was established in 1998 at UC Berkeley. Since then, the team has evolved into a well-recognized dance group among campus peers and various communities throughout the Bay Area.

TL is known for its upbeat, diverse, and high-energy performances that highlight some of Berkeley’s most talented dancers.

TL was founded on the basis of not only promoting and performing the art of dance but also providing a unique family-like experience for its dancers. That experience is meant to push its dancers physically and mentally under the discipline of dance training while maintaining a positive and goal-oriented attitude. The combination of all the dancer’s strengths, training, friendships, and love of dance creates the TL family.

How the Team Works

TL holds auditions at the beginning of each semester. Typically, auditions are held in person, where auditionees learn a piece from the coordinators and audition immediately after. During the pandemic, auditions have moved online where auditionees learn from a video tutorial and submit within a specified time window.

TL practices are twice a week on Wednesday and Sunday nights for two hours each (total of four hours a week). Throughout the semester, TL participates in workshops, bonding, and set-building. At the end of the semester, TL typically performs at campus-wide showcases or, in the case of the pandemic, releases a concept video.
