UC BERKELEY DEEWANI

The Hindi word Deewani means crazy/obsessed/mad. As UC Berkeley's newly established all-female Hindi Film Fusion dance team, we are obsessed and crazy about dance. With dancers trained in various dance styles, Deewani incorporates Hindi film dance, Bhangra, hip-hop, Indian classical, contemporary and so much more. Our team was founded in 2019 by Adithi Jaikumar, with a mission of providing a fun space for girls to come up with creative Bollywood ideas and to showcase their talents. Deewani is made by passionate dancers to promote empowering women in the Bollywood fusion dance circuit.

How the Team Works

Auditions are usually held during the fall of every semester. The process includes attending a dance workshop as well as auditions to try out for the team. Practice is held twice a week. The goal of practices is to learn new types of choreography in order to prepare for competitions. Deewani's bonding traditions include boba socials and family of bigs and littles!
